Judy Miller, Palo Alto’s
pioneering stained-glass artist (1934-2006) One of our most precious neighbors, Judy Miller (2979 Alexis Drive), lost her fight with lung cancer last year. Everyone who knew her loved her and we owe a debt of gratitude for the work and support she gave our association over the 46 years she lived in our neighborhood. She was at various times, our resident Tree Steward, our Treasurer and always a behind-the-scenes supporter of our activities. Beyond her neighborhood, Judy devoted time and money to many local causes throughout her life, including education, wildlife charities and women’s rights. In addition to being the neighbor we all loved, Judy was a gifted stained-glass artist. There is an extensive article in the Palo Alto Weekly (May 11, 2007) giving tribute to her life and work. A retrospective exhibit featuring her work has been organized by Jean Slocum and is showing at the Sheridan Apartments common room, 360 Sheridan Avenue, Palo Alto through July 31 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm or by arrangement at 650-473-1179. We will miss her indomitable spirit, seeing the lovely blonde watering her plants curbside with her white pants, shirt and white gardening gloves, always with her smile and a word of encouragement.
